2017 Agriscience – Nutrition of Chicks Lab

Agriscience students conduct an experiment determining the effect of different protein levels of feed on the growth and development of baby chicks over a two week period. The chick groups are identified and separated into two brooders. One group receives 18% crude protein and the other group receives 16% crude protein. The chicks are weighed daily and the data is graphed and analyzed.

Agriscience students conduct experiments calculating the specific heat of various samples of metal. The students calculate the calories used by the metals to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree celsius.

2017 FFA Proficiency Awards

Stark County FFA members recently participated in the Section 3 Proficiency Awards for Supervised Agricultural Experience programs at Geneseo High School. Jessica Purdy (Left) placed first in Landscape Management, Teresa Heuermann (middle) placed second in Small Animal Production and Care, and Emily Fairfield placed second in Agricultural Sales Placement. Jessica will advance to District competition on March 8.

2017 BSAA Plant Science – Effects of Temperature on the Germination of Seeds

BSAA Plant Science students get to play “doctor” while checking seed samples for germination rates. Seeds are placed in cold, room, and warm temperature environments to compare the effects of temperature on the germination of wheat, oat, popcorn, and soybean seed samples. The moist seed samples tend to have a pungent odor.

2016 National FFA Convention

Stark County members attended the 89th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Convention Sessions, Career Expo, Shopping Mall, Career Development Events, Tours, World’s Toughest Rodeo, and Concert with Cole Swindell and Chris Young.

2016 Agriscience – Leaving the Leftovers Lab

Agriscience class set up an experiment that determined the effect of crop residue on water infiltration into the soil profile. Students discovered that crop residue mixed into the soil allowed more water to infiltrate the surface reducing runoff and erosion during a rainfall.
